Over the fall, I’ve been working with the Red Door Project to develop an audience experience framework to accompany their newest production, Cop Out. Cop Out is a series of monologues that illuminates the complexity of being a cop in charge of policing a community. The Red Door Project engaged in a co-creative process to develop this work: listening to the police bureau’s response to their 2017 production of Hands Up, commissioning playwrights from across the country to interview and write monologues, and holding private readings for law enforcement.
The early November shows are the second preview run of Cop Out and will experiment with audience interaction before and after the show to supplement the Red Door’s traditional post-show talkback.
